"Ropes for Rescues" Recycling Program
The "Ropes for Rescues" recycling program was set up to breathe new life into used climbing rope while giving back to animal rescues. Rock climbers and arborists must retire their ropes at some point whether that be due to numerous falls, age or damage. The question is "what do we do with our old ropes?". Most people hang them up in the garage, use them as tie downs or just forget about them. By recycling these ropes through the "Ropes for Rescues" recycling program we will keep these ropes out of our landfills and give back to the animal community at the same time.
At Dog Patch SF we collect these donated ropes, wash the ropes in dog friendly soap and re-purpose them into durable, eco-friendly dog leashes. Each one of our leashes is hand made in San Francisco with the lowest impact on the environment.
How we donate together:
When a climber recycles their rope we conduct a short interview where we get to know who they are, how long they have been climbing for and where they used their rope to climb. Then the climber then gets to choose their favorite animal rescue that we will donate 20% of the leashes made from their rope to. If the climber does not a specific rescue for us to donate their leashes to we then select one of the rescues that has been recommended to us. We now donate to over 150 different animal rescues from San Francisco to Ecuador. Check out the "Community and Rescues" page to see the list of some of the rescues that we have donated to in the past.
